Hori Sony PSP Memory Stick Video Recorder Pre-Order

Topic: Hot Gadgets

Hori Sony PSP Memory Stick Video Recorder Pre-Order Future Technology News technology Review Game accessory company Hori offers a little box that allows to record TV programming directly on a Sony Memory Stick Pro for the Sony PSP.

There are lots of software solutions to convert videos for the Sony PSP, the Hori Video Recorder just makes this a lot simpler. The device just connects to video ports on a TV or DVD player and records the video signal in a selected quality. The Hori recorder is not a PVR. It just records what is coming in at the video port. No timer function or stuff like that.

Coffee Company Tchibo Sells Low-Cost Floor Cleaning Robot

Topic: Hot Gadgets

Coffee Company Tchibo Sells Floor Cleaning Robot Future Technology News technology Review Updated 08/16/06
German coffee chain Tchibo is selling beginning tomorrow a floor cleaning robot for a low 89,90 Euros (~$110USD).

Update:
Review of Tchibo Robot available now.

Tchibo is a very big chain in Germany that besides selling coffee has every week a new theme store selling anything from clothes to gadgets. This week it will be a low-cost floor cleaning robot similar to the iRobot Roomba. Only difference, which I did not realize when I wrote the story first, is that this robot is only brushing and is in fact no vacuum cleaner. The iRobot Roomba is brushing as well, but also has a vacuum feature.

Tchibo robot features push sensors to avoid obstacles. It features 3 modes to handle rooms int he size of 10 to 30 m2. The batteries hold for 90 mins. This robot has sensors to detect stairs. Interesting is also a rotating brush on the border to get close to walls.
The red colored robot measures 37x10x33cm.

The low price on this robot and the feature-set are worth enough for me to go and pick one up for testing it this week. So stay tuned to see if this cheapo floorvac is any good. Read more

iZ Zizzle iPod Mystery Toy Revealed!

Topic: Hot Gadgets

iZ Zizzle iPod Mystery Toy Revealed Future Technology News technology Review This is a fun story: Waking up scanning my RSS feeds I see Engadget (Links to story on Book of Joe) running a story about the iZ Zizzle mystery toy that is supposed to not be revealed yet.

As we reported iLounge runs a promotional give-away where they make a big deal out of releasing new photos of the iZ toy during the competition showing only glimpses of the weird looking iZ. Participants in the give-away should send an email and tell what the iZ Zizzle toy is. The competition is still going until August 19th. Well, just read USAToday or the Chicago Tribune and you know - One to many PR guys at work? Or Zizzle just figured a story in USAToday gets just tons more eyeballs than they get from iLounge. Oh, and a quick search on Amazon also reveals nice photos (see a larger one below) of the iZ. Apparently the Zizzle toy will be available in three colors: Blue, Red and Green. Amazon.com offers the iZ for pre-order at $39.99. It will ship September 29th.

Anyway, the Chicago Tribune has figured out the same I already wrote in the first story about the iZ iPod toy. It is the same concept as the Sega iDog. Just as you can see in the photo (from Amazon.com) the looks of iZ are hard to grasp. It is some kind of colored alien. The Sega iDog is just plain cute. The iDog will be on sale in the US this month from Tiger Electronics, beating the iZ from Zizzle by 1 month to the market. Read more

Sony PS3 Fans need to Buy a Microsoft Xbox 360?

Topic: Hot Gadgets

Sony PS3 Fans need to Buy a Microsoft Xbox 360? Future Technology News technology Review Based on an analyst report circulating this week that Sony might delay the Sony PS3 launch to 2007 if the Microsoft Xbox 360 is a flop. Continuing this thought one could think this would imply that Sony PS3 fans should buy a Xbox 360 to make sure they get a Sony PS3 in 2007.

My opinion is that it will not be that easy for Sony. The Microsoft Xbox 360 will most likely be a hit. Halo 3 and Xbox Live are just some of the hot arguments for the Xbox 360. More discussions on this topic on Slashdot. Read more

Are You Sick of Using Video Tapes in Camcorders?

JVC offers a line of Video Cameras that use Hard-drives instead of Video Tapes. JVC is still the only company that has Video Cameras on the market that use hard-drives to store DVD quality video. It is in my mind a very obvious solution in a complete digital environment that we are in now.
Nobody is questioning that we stopped use film in digital cameras. So why do still most video cameras on the market use tape? Sure the data volume is much higher for video, memory sticks or SD cards offer to little space to record hours of high quality videos. Now that portable hard-drives are used to store your complete music library it is of course also possible to record hours of high quality video on them.
Right now JVC offers three models with a 4GB hard-drive: The GZ-MC100 ($899.99), The GZ-MC200 ($998.94) and the new high-end GZ-MC-500 ($1,599.95). If you need more storage, JVC will start ship end of August the JVC Everio G-Series camcorders that boast 20 and 30GB hard-drives. That means up to 37 hours of video recording on the 30GB models and up to 25 hours on the 20GB model - Tape just died, as film did. Amazon.com opened pre-order on the new JVC Everio G-Series camcorders. You can get the GZ-MG20 for $799.95, the GZ-MG40 for $899.99 and the GZ-MG50 for $999.99.
